It seems that IVF pregnancies carry the increased risk of certain complications which can be justified by the fact that women who get pregnant in the result of IVF are of advanced middle age, and that often the causes of their fertility disorders may lead to the increased number of complications during pregnancy. More often than in natural pregnancies, in the case of IVF pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, placental abruption, gestational diabetes can occur, and cesarean deliveries occur more often (Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, vol.109, no.4, 2007).
