As embryos are transferred directly to the uterine cavity, ectopic (tubal, cervical peritoneal) pregnancy, as well as abnormal location of intrauterine may occur.

Such pregnancies may occur independently or simultaneously with normally developing intrauterine pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies may require special treatment or even surgical intervention.
