FAMSI – (Functional fine, Acrosome activated, Morphologically Selected sperm Injection)

What does the technique consist in?

In this technique, in the laboratory we use hyaluronan, which binds the mature forms of oocytes. For the procedure, we select a sperm cell with normal morphology, bound to hyaluronan.

How does it work?

The test consists in binding of the mature forms of sperm cells with hyaluronan in the layer between the drop of semen and the drop of a special reagent. For the procedure, we select a sperm cell with normal morphology, bound to hyaluronan. The prerequisite of the application of this technique is the presence of movements in the patient’s semen.

For whom?

This method is recommended for patients with confirmed teratozoospermia, abnormal sperm morphology confirmed in semen analysis performed with the use of HOS (hypo-osmotic swelling) and MSOME technique, and abnormal sperm DNA fragmentation test results. This technique allows to introduce to the egg cell a sperm cell with a thoroughly evaluated morphology (like in IMSI-MSOME technique) and in addition assessed intravitally for the risk of DNA fragmentation. The technique allows to reduce the risk of selecting a spermatozoon with the presence of aneuploidies.

In which other techniques do we use hyaluronan?

This substance is used also in the test of sperm binding to HBA hyaluronan. The test allows specialists in the laboratory to assess semen for its maturity for natural fertilization.
