I am constantly surprised that the health of children from in vitro is discussed by people who have neither proper knowledge nor medical experience (priests, actors, politicians). Studies conducted all over the world prove that there are no differences in the development and health condition of children conceived naturally and thanks to IVF.
Reports presented among others by the British scientists at this year’s ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproductive Medicine) congress confirm these findings. What’s more, an extensive analysis carried out by the Danish team demonstrated a bit better educational achievements confirmed in children from in vitro as compared with their peers conceived naturally… It is true that in children of infertile couples, the risk of certain genetic defects increases by ca. 1%. However, according to study results, this is associated with the causes of infertility as the disease and not with the ovarian stimulation process or the IVF technique in itself. Such patients can already be helped by medicine. The so-called preimplantation diagnosis is carried out, which reduces the risk of anomalies and decreases the percentage of miscarriages.
