This procedure is recommended for patients with increased number of sperm cells with DNA damage confirmed in the sperm DNA fragmentation test. A high percentage of sperm cells with damaged DNA may be the cause of decreased ability to fertilize an egg cell both with natural method and using the assisted reproduction techniques. It can also contribute to abnormal divisions at the early stages of embryo growth, the risk of aneuploidy (abnormal number of chromosomes) and it can be the cause of early miscarriages. The sperm sorting procedure allows to choose only those sperm cells which should not have any DNA damage or have less DNA damage than the others.
